Problem with CD/DVD player on Optiplex 740 PC

Hi there

I am experiencing problems with operating the CD/DVD player on my Optiplex 740 PC. Since buying it, it has always worked but for the past month, it does not read any CDs or DVDs. The tray light comes on but then nothing further happens.

What could be the problem? I went into Device drivers and received the following error message:

"Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41)  Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device."

The PC has not been opened or any device disconnected.

Hi, Mikedrum:

Please go to the CD/DVD FAQ (link below) and follow the instructions for a "code 39 error". Be sure to follow the instructions that pertain to your operating system. That will fix your problem.

Good luck!

Ok, go to this link (might be the same one you used before). Instead of using the "Fix it" button, go to the "let me fix it myself" section and follow the manual instructions. This requires you to edit your registry manually. Be sure to back up your registry first.
