Problem with Dimension 9100 audio
I have a Dimension 9100 pent 4 3.0 gb with XP MC 05 OS.It had a Sound blaster audigy 2 ZS sound card installed at factory when built.About two weeks ago the sound started breaking up and then one day just quit.I tried reseating the card and reloaded the driver.System wont reconize it.I purchased a new Sound blaster X-Fi.I removed the old driver and card.I notice the oem card had a 10 pin inline white connector on it,but the new card doesnt have the connector. It has a lead going to the front of the tower.I put the new card and driver in.The sound works, but I started getting blue screen boot errors(NMI MEMORY PARITY ERROR).I tried new memory modules I had, but errors reoccurred.I removed the new sound card and stuck the old failed card back in and plugged the lead back in and now the system boots fine, but I have no sound.Whats happening here?

Hi, no doubt the trouble is with the sound card, since you have tried to uninstall and re-install the drivers /upgrde the drivers. If you have the resource CD try to run the Dell-diagnostic ( Custom Test ) and isolate the problem( since it will give you the exact error message and where the problem occured). After that I suggest you to contact the Dell Technical Support, they will try to do some troubleshooting steps, but ultimately they will dispatch the sound card that is compatible with your computer.
Hope this might help you

I presume you're out of warranty since you purchased a new sound card so contacting Dell for assistance is out, unless you're willing to pay $$ for whatever they might have to offer.
One thing to check is entering the bios setup program to be sure the integrated audio which might be installed in all 9100's (as it was the standard audio device, unless upgraded) is not enabled, which would cause a conflict.
Also, did you remove all software and drivers associated with the original sound card before installing the new one?

My unit is out of warranty(3 years old).I checked the bios and the integrated audio is shut off.I removed the old drivers first, then installed the new card and drivers.Perhaps a glitch in the system and I should try it all over again.I'm still puzzled with the 10 pin inline connector.Maybe I am have more then one problem too.Seems that my integrated ethernet is failing too.Seems I've had a high incidence of failures.I've lost the DVD burner, graphics card, modem, memory slot on the mobo, now sound card and perhaps the ethernet.Just my luck.
