I have the same problem. I notice that if I put a disk in right after booting it works. If I don't or if I take the disk out for some time (I don't know how long) the drive gives a "Drive not ready" error and will not work until I reboot. I have tried the latest iomega driver and still no go. Any help would be appreciated.

I have the same problem.  I contacted Iomega, they said my drive had an OEM agreement and go with dell.  My drive worked when I first received the machine, but later locked up.  Iomega gave me this reply:

The drive you are referencing "factory install internal" is what is known as an OEM product. The company that installed the drive, they bought the license to not only install but also to support/replace.

I will give you a couple of tips to try to see if the drive is not faulty, but in the future, please refer to the manufacturer of your machine.

Do you have Norton Antivirus

Problem:

Unable to access Zip disk with the following errors:

Drive is Not Ready

The Parameter Is Incorrect

This will occur unless computer is booted with a Zip disk inserted and is due to a timing issue between Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition Version 7.0 and the Iomega ZipToA service.

Solution:

Symantec has corrected the issue as of Corporate Edition 7.02 Build 49. Customers should contact Symantec (www.symantec.com) about upgrading to the most recent version of Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition.

If it is not possible to upgrade to Corporate Edition 7.02 Build 49 or higher, Symantec recommends the following steps to resolve the issue.

Change the startup option for the ZiptoA service to 'Manual' and restart without a disk in the drive. If the IomegaAccess service is not being used (to allow non-Administrator users full access to the drive and Iomega utilities) and it is starting automatically, try setting its startup option to 'Manual' as well.

If the first workaround fails to resolve the problem, boot with a disk in the drive (this may affect the ability to swap Zip disks without rebooting).

Disable the Norton Antivirus option to check floppies for boot viruses upon access.

Click Configure, and select File System Real Time Protection.

Click Advanced, then click Floppies.

Uncheck Check floppies for boot viruses upon access.

Click OK.

Disable Real-Time scan for removable media in the Options panel

If setting the above services to 'Manual' startup fails to resolve the issue, try setting each of the services to 'Automatic' Startup Type and check the Allow Service to Interact with Desktop box, then restart the computer.

Try booting with no disk in the drive.

Disable the virus checker or set its options not to scan the internal driv

Well, I bought an external USB 750meg iomega drive . I am running w2k pro.  So this is not an OEM drive.

I am seeing the exact same problem.  The drive works if a disk is in it when rebooted, but after a few minutes, it gets 'access error'

and if I remove a disk, it does not recognize putting another in

Dell does have a bug fix for 'hard eject button problems', and I did that patch, but no help.

Iomega was no help, 20 minutes on hold and then a 'it should work', read the manual, check connections, etc.  The standard Tech Support Bullsh*t

The problem continues. I have the 250 ZIP internal and like the others it keeps trying to read a 100MB even after it had formatted it earlier. After the problem develops, it has difficulty reading a 250 MB disk.

Any help out there?
