I have the same problem.  My new computer won't recognize my printer even when I have several other computers that do.  Dell Support has refused to help so let me know if you find a solution.  I have been trying to cancel an order that I placed Wed for a new laptop because of the support that I experienced tonight.

EdnaM, chormel:

What service pack do you have for XP? If you don't have service pack 2 installed, follow these steps.

1) Uninstall printer software and drivers.

2) Download and install Service Pack 2 off the Windows Update website.

3) Re-install printer software.

See if that helps your situation...

Visit the HP site and download the latest software for your "all-in-one" - note that HP hardware is very picky about the installation steps. Follow any instructions to the letter. If you've had an abortive installation, you may need to uninstall and reinstall.

I run XP on my system with an HP 1170C all-in-one printer connected to it. When I installed my printer, instead of installing the software that came with the printer on the computer. I let XP load a default driver on the computer thru the Hardware Wizard. If this next procedure doesn't work, you might try installing it that way?

If you're certain they are to do with the "all-in-one", then it should be OK to delete them. Wait 'til you have everything running right before you finally delete them from the Wast Bin, just in case.

Always a good idea to set a System Restore point before you make any dubious changes, just in case. Better safe than sorry.

Also, if you go to the www.hp.com site, you can go to the specific area for support for your product and use the on-line chat facility to solve your problem - this might be the best solution.

Good luck.

I could not get the new Dell to recognize my HP 895cse printer using a usb cable.  When I went to a parallel cable it recognized it imeadiatly.  Does anyone have an idea why this would happen?

I need help too!  I bought the USB to Printer Bridge Cable from newegg.com.  I plugged the one end directly into the printer and then the other into one of the USB ports into my new Dell Dimension 9100 that I received last week.

Once I plug it in, I get a message that the USB Device is not recognized.  It says it has malfunctioned and Windows does not recognize it.  I plugged it in right next to the one for my mouse in the rear of the computer.  I also have a NEC USB external Floppy Drive and it works just fine, so I know the actual port(s) work.

Please help!  I need to get my printer (HP deskjet 920c) up and running ASAP.

I also am having problems.  I bought a HP PSC 1610v "All in 1".  Right out of the gate, unable to install.  HP support no help.  I finally was able to get it installed by going inside, but my DIM 4700 keeps giving me the "safely remove icon".  I am almost to the point to call HP and demand reimbursement.  I bought it in August.
