Check the back of your computer with the power on; there should be four LEDs in some combination of green or amber. Go to
http://docs.us.dell.com/docs/systems/dsleest/codemess.htm#diagnostic_codes to see what the combo means. It will tell you whether the problem may have something to do with memory. If so it could be one of the new modules or it could be the socket. Also, check in BIOS setup to see whether it is recognizing the new memory.

Apologies to Neil Gaiman (not Neil Diamond d___t!)
In some instances, these errors occur because the new modules are not properly seated. Make sure that they have been completely pressed down so that the side tabs have clicked up into place.
Unused slots must be occupied by a crimm???? I have an unused slot that is occupied by nothing....I have one 256mb RDRAM module and my system works just fine....
