Reformatting
My girlfriends Dell desktop has started it's slow down due to old age and other issues. I want to install a fresh Windows 7 64 bit however the dell was bought with vista on it. I have a product key for windows 7 that has not been used and would like to know how to reformat the harddrive without messing up the dell motherboard. I assume I need disks from Dell to do so however can you get these for cheap if you already have a product key?
Thanks for the responses.

Gbryant87,
Before we can advise you on the best way to proceed, please give us the model Dell desktop on which you plan to install Windows 7.
What you can do in the meantime is to download Microsoft's Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor program from here: www.microsoft.com/.../default.aspx
Also, before you upgrade, you might wish to download the Windows Easy Transfer program for Vista so that you can back up your current documents, favorites, email settings and so forth to an external USB hard drive or flash drive. The Windows Easy Transfer program is available here: www.microsoft.com/.../Search.aspx
NOTE: On the above link, you need to determine whether your version of Windows Vista is 32-bit or 64-bit and dowload the appropriate version of Windows Easy Transfer. You can find out the version of Windows Vista currently installed by simultaneously pressing the Windows Logo key (that's the one on the left side of the spacebar) and the Pause/Break key at the same time.
Let us know what you find.
