Reinstalling XP OS issues

Hi Forum

looks like I need to reinstall my OS on my Dell XPS 400.  I have the Dell reinstallation disks from a previous reinstall and have the instructions from Tech Support site.  Only problem is that I cannot interrupt the boot up sequence to get the PC to install from the drive  - neither F12 nor F8 keys have any effect at the 'Dell' screen not matter how frequently I press either key during the boot up.  PC will eventually launch into XP then straight into blue screen.   Anyone remember back far enough on how I could force installation from disk ?

Hi Sujatha

Pressing F2 brings up Dell System DXP051 screen with system/drives/On board Devices etc options.

Hi RayBatWelwyn,

I am sorry for the inconvenience.  There is no option to force install from the disc.

Please tap F2 key at startup to open BIOS screen and check if it responds. If even F2 key is not responding, connect another good known keyboard and check. Let me know the status.

Update - managed to get in to some type of testing app that has a 'Symptom Tree'  Clicked on the Tests for Windows Blue Screen option.  Process failed on System memory MATS - other tests still running.  Anyone know what MATS is ?

Hi RayBatWelwyn.

Please reseat the memory and run test once again. Please find the link below for the service manual:

Shut the system down, press and hold the Fn key on the keyboard and press the power button which will launch diagnostics. Also refer to the following link:
