Removing the Add In Graphics Card
If I remove the Add in Graphics card on my Dell E520 unit, can I use the Integrated Video connector. Will my computer recognize that only. Also, how do I get one of those PCI slot slits for my computer.
I need to get a replacement VGA graphics card. Which one should I buy?
Thank You

I gather that your add-in video card isn't working...correct?
If you remove the add-in card, the PC should automatically recognize the onboard VGA port. You can find instructions to remove the card in the manual. Connect the monitor to that port before powering up the PC and then boot in Safe Mode (press F8).
After you get to the desktop in Safe Mode, open Device Manager and uninstall the add-in video card entry if it's still listed. (Right-click it and select Uninstall). When that's done reboot normally.
You have a PCI-e x16 slot on the motherboard. So assuming your monitor accepts inputs that are better than VGA (eg, DVI, HDMI), you might want to go for a card that has those outputs instead (or in addition to) VGA. You will need a suitable cable if you connect by something other than VGA.
Maybe somebody else can recommend a specific card, but make sure it's compatible with whatever version of Windows you're running, and with your budget since this is an older PC.
If you don't install a new add-in video card, you can probably get a slot cover for back of the PC at any computer shop or grab one out of an old PC. They should all be standard size and probably cost maybe a couple of bucks or less.
