Replacing Intel HD 2000 Graphics Driver with nVidia or AMD
I have a Vostro 260 desktop running Windows 7 64 bit.
I am having ongoing problems with my computer freezing, and then sometimes 'crashes' and a message pops up that says intel graphics accelerator for windows 8 (r) stopped responding and has been successfully recdovered.
Is this wird that it says windows 8 when I'm using windows 7?
I have already uninstalled it and installed the latest driver.
Should I now uninstallit and replace it with another grpahics driver like nVidia or AMD? Any suggestions are welcomed!
Cheers,
Tim

Hi Timand,
Please run diagnostics on the system to confirm hardware functionality. Here are the steps:
Also, uninstall the video drivers for the Intel HD 2000 following the below mentioned steps:
Also update the BIOS of the system. Here are the steps:
Note: Do not turn off power before update complete. Connect your computer any surge protector (if available) to avoid any unexpected shut down. Also, disconnect all the external peripherals before updating the BIOS. All the programs should be closed and documents saved.
Hope this helps. Please reply if you have any questions.

Intel's video driver is flaky and that's why I added a 7750 video card to my XPS 8500.

Thanks Saharsh,
I have succesfully updated the drivers.
However when updating the BIOS I get a popup window that says: "GetMeVersion error; Get last error = 2"
Then in the update window it says: Redirect console error: 2.
Any suggestions please?
Many thanks,
Tim

Pardon my ignorance, but that's replacing the hardware, as opposed to what we're trying to do here now huh?
I reinstalled the driver as above an hour or so ago, but experienced a freeze and then a crash on my computer display. The error that followed (regarding the crash and 'recovery') was the same, expect it now referred to windows 7 (r), not windows 8.
Shall I replace my video card?
Cheers for all your help team,
Tim

You might try installing the latest Intel video driver straight from Intel's site. I had problems with the Dell version (Intel 4000 graphics and XPS 8500).

Hi Saharsh,
This morning the issues with my computer are worse than ever. Trying to watch a basic video on a news website it froze twice (resulting in the sound freezing and creating a buzzing sound). It then 'crashed', with the screen going black and then recovered but the video part of the screen went green (not the whole screen, just the video window), and stayed that colour.
Can you please help, I need my computer to do work on and this happens very regularly.
Many thanks,
Tim

Hi Tim,
Please share the results of the diagnostics. Also, the BIOS error that you stated above is being worked upon currently by our Engineering Team. It appears to be an issue with the graphics card. However, to rule out any possibilities of Drivers or Windows related issue, I recommend that you restore the system back to factory settings once. You may refer to the link http://dell.to/1bHqmtN for steps.
Note: Please backup all the data as this will lead to complete data loss.
Hope this helps. Please reply if you have any questions.

Hi Saharsh,
There were issues detected with diagnostics. Shall I run the BIOS update again?
I actually wish to hook up twin screens on my computer anyway, and I understand that this involves replacing the video card? I really don;t want to go through the hassle of backing up my entire computer.
Can you suggest a suitable video card please?
KR,
Tim

Hi Tim,
Thank you for sharing the information.
Since the diagnostics have passed, it is worth giving a shot to restore the system back to factory settings as this might fix the issue for you. I understand your point that it takes time to backup all the data, restore and put it back. But, it is better to perform this step before replacing the hardware.
Also, you can connect two monitors using the Intel Graphics card as well with the use of a Splitter. Note that using splitter you can get cloned display not an extended one. For your reference, Dell has tested following graphics cards with this system:
Hope this helps. Please reply if you have any questions.
