See this article on how to install and run applications in XP mode. To use Windows XP Mode, you need to download and install both Windows XP Mode, and Windows Virtual PC, the program that runs virtual operating systems on your computer. There are instructions on that site for how to set this up.
I previously read the article you sent a link to, and it does not describe download files the way you described them,
windows xp mode, and windows virtual pc.
The links to the downloads do read that way, but the download file names have no logical interpretation, at least not to me. Perhaps you can tell me why there are two xp mode files,
windowsxpmode_en-us.exe, and windowsxpmode_n-en-us.exe., just one letter difference.
If I need one, or both, there is no explanation how to pick one, or both, which is the way the check boxes are set up.
The virtual pc files are set up the same. Pick one, or both.
windows6.1-kb958559-x86-refreshpkg.msu, and windows6.1-kb958559-x64-refreshpkg.msu.
Again, there is no explanation about how to pick one, or both. I did see a detail somewhere that the x86 is for 32 bit, and x64 virtual pc file may be 64 bit, which is what I am running (win 7 pro 64 bit), but I can't be certain of that.
Thanks osprey for that clarification. I don't understand why the Windows site doesn't explain which file to pick. I'm on a new computer and am trying not to load it up with unnecessary files. Thanks again,

Pick windowsxpmode_en-us.exe if you are using an English version of Windows, or the other if not.
Pick windows6.1-kb958559-x86-refreshpkg.msu if you are running a 32-bit OS and the other for a 64-bit OS.
The instructions for installation seem completely straightforward to me but let me know if you need further assistance.

Don't run XP mode. It's a security risk.
