One thing that sticks out is the other USB devices (drives) that you have.  Are these connected to the new PC when you try to run the scanner?  If so, physically disconnect them and see if that makes a difference.

Also, does the scanner work with the supplied Visioneer scanner routine?  When you access the scanner, even with the Windows Scanner and Camera Wizard, it still uses the scanner's driver, not a generic Windows XP driver.   And was the scanner installed in the correct order? - Visioneer software and then ONLY connect the unit when the installation program tells you.

Finally, is the Visioneer Windows XP "WIA" (Windows Image Acquisition) compliant?  I realize it works on the old computer, but I have run across non WIA compliant devices that will work with older systems that have been upgraded to Windows XP with Retail versions or upgrades of XP but will not work with the OEM versions of XP.  The two XP versions are supposed to be identical but I've run across this on several new PC's.  I have this on my own PC, I have an Olympus digital camera that is now WIA compliant but it connects and the XP Camera and Scanner Wizard comes up and allows me to transfer camera files on an old PC that was upgraded from Windws ME to Windows XP with a Retail Windows XP upgrade.  My new PC (2 1/2 years old) has the OEM Windows XP and I have to manually transfer pictures using the Windows Explorer on this machine.

I have disconnected all other USB devices except for the scanner and that has not helped.

Paperport scanning software does not work.

It was installed in correct order.

Both systems are Windows XP Pro OEM.

Thanks,

Got any more ideas,

Bob

I use to use Paperport software. When I upgraded to XP, I started having all sorts of issues with it on an older Compaq computer. I never went back to it and have found other solutions for scanning. I realize Visioneer uses Paperport software, but that scanner WILL work without Paperport being installed. For instance, Paint Shop Pro will also activate the scanner through the twain device. I would dump the Paperport and find another solution.

Thanks for the response but I do not have PaperPort installed. I need to use the Windows Picture Acquisition Wizard.

Please feel to share any other ideas you have.

Thanks,

Bob

Bob, as I mentioned before you must have a TWAIN driver installed, from the scanner vendor.  The Windows Scanner and Camera Wizard does not have it's own drivers, it uses the vendor's drivers (in this case Visioneer).

You have to get the scanner working with the Visioneer software first.  If it won't work with the Visioneer software, it won't work with the Windows Scanner and Camera Wizard.

ADDED:  I have a Microtek scanner.  I don't use the Windows Camera and Scanner Wizard as the Microtek scanner application has many more options and works so much better.  I could use the Camera and Scanner Wizard, but I don't see the need for it. My old PC has a HP PSC 750 all in one connected to it and the same way, the HP scanner software is far superior in functionality to the Windows Camera and Scanner Wizard.
