Secure System Disk Wipe

Will the Dell Recovery and Restore program work after a secure (military grade) wipe?  Is the backup disk a second option if recovery and restore cannot work after secure wipe?

Yes, it should be able to restore everything.

The purpose of "wiping" utilities is to permanently remove any lingering sector-level data so that it cannot be recovered by digital forensics tools. Wiping doesn't damage the disk in any way and afterwards you can repartion and reinstall as you normally would.

Hi LarryH2,

I'm not sure what model Dell or operating system you have, but you should be able to restore the operating system if you created Dell recovery discs after you first got your system.

Thanks Osprey, I have an XPS8000, WIN7Ultimate 64, 8GB RAM machine.  I was considering using  Wipe Drive 3.2 to completely overwrite the HDD.  I thought it would remove all partitions and I didn't know if a Recovery disk DVD set could reinstall the operating system after such an operation.
