Hi,

Not too sure about the Hard drive and the system's serial number giving you the model number and type. But for the monitor, the 4th to the 8th digits are the part number for that monitor...

Assuming you have a monitor that has a serial number MY - 0 - 23DDC - 46632 - 296 - 82LZ, this is how you would decode it...

MY - Product of origin (Malaysia)

0 - For future use

23DDC - Part Number

46632 - Manufacturer's Codes

296 - Date, month and year of Manufacture (I'm Sure, but not how these numbers are decoded)

82LZ - Batch Number

Regards

AJ

P.S. I heard hard drives also use the same 20 digit structure, you could check and see...

Hi,

Guess what...! The hard drives also have 20 digit serial numbers apart from several other bar codes. Which means it follows the same classification process.

P.S. : I dont think you'll get the answer for De-ciphering service tags for the system.
