Shadows & Stripes on Display

I have shadows and stripes across my display.   How do I get rid of these?

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum (DCF). I apologize for the issue.
RESTORE THE VIDEO SETTINGS -
Reset the video card display adaptor to defaults. Follow the instructions for your operating system -

WINDOWS 95/98/ME/2000 -
* Right click on an empty space on the desktop, left click properties
* Click the Screen Saver tab
* Choose one, set it for 1 minute, click Apply
* Look to the right of the globe, click Settings or Power
* Set everything as below:
Power Schemes = Home/Office Desk
System Standby = Never (If listed at all)
Turn off monitor = Never
Turn off hard Disk = Never
If you see the Hibernate tab, click it, remove any checks
* Click Apply and OK
* Click the Appearance tab
* Look for Scheme, click the down arrow and change this to Windows Standard
* Click Apply
* Click the Effects tab, the only one that gets a check is, "Show icons using all possible colors"
* Click Apply if you made any changes to Effects
* Click the Settings tab
Colors = High Color 16bit
Screen Area = 1024 by 768
* Click Advanced
* Under the General tab
Choose Small Fonts
Put a dot on, "Apply the new color settings without restarting"
* Click the Adapter tab
Click the down arrow to change the Refresh Rate to optimal
* Click the Performance or Troubleshooting tab
Start with Full
* Click Apply- Ok- Ok, Yes to restart the system

WINDOWS XP -
* Click Start- Settings- Control Panel or Start- Control Panel
* Click Appearance and Themes or Display
* Look to the left. If listed, click "Switch to Classic View"
* Click the Appearance tab
* Look for Color Scheme, change to Default (blue)
* Click the Effects button, check everything except "Use large icons", the options chosen should be Fade effect and Standard
* Click OK
* Click the Settings tab
Screen Resolution = at least 1024x768 pixels
Color quality = Medium (16 bit)
* Click the Advanced button
* Under the General tab
Choose Normal size (96 dpi)
Put a dot on, " Apply the new display settings without restarting"
* Click the monitor tab
Change the Refresh Rate to at least 75Htz or the refresh rate printed on your monitor
* Click the Troubleshoot tab
Set this to Full
* Click- Apply- OK- OK
* Click Yes to restart
* If the system does NOT restart, Click Start- Turn Off Computer- Restart

Thanks for the help.   The color does look much better, but I still have the shadows.  For example, the blue "Dell" section across the top of the web page looks great, but then there is a gray shadow the same height as the blue section on the scroll bar.   Any suggestions?

Ok - did all that, and I still have it.  It doesn't seem quite as bad, but it is definitely still there.  Could it be something with my monitor?

Every Dell monitor has a self test function:

* Click here to set your Service Tag HOME Page
* If listed, click Home and Home Office
* Under "Alternative Sign In", type in your Service Tag number [press the Enter key]
* Click the blue Reference tab
* Click User's Guides
* Click Monitor
* Choose your specific monitor size
* Choose your specific monitor model (look on your invoice or the rear of the monitor)
* Click English | Troubleshooting
* Run the Self-Test Feature Check (STFC)
If the monitor passes, look for and use the reset button on the front of the monitor. If you still have the same issue, the video card or the video card drivers would be suspect

how did you resolve your problem of stripes on your monitor screen? i would very much like to know because i'm having a similar problem. botzaris

Hello

In my case I had a defective video card on a system that was over 3 years old.

I had the shaded lines and muddled images.

Try to connect your PC to another monitor to prove that it's not the monitor that's causing the problem. If you have a clear, unshaded picture when you hook up to a different monitor, you may have a faulty video card.

Just speaking from personal experience. Your result and outcome may differ.
