Will updating the BIOS to A05 further improve on the speed? Do I have to change anything in the updated BIOS to reflect the 2 one GB memory modules I have already installed?

Hi USSPurdy,

Updating the BIOS will not cause any harm as long as the system is not powered off during the update. I see that the BIOS version A05 released on 12/19/2003 was the last version released for Dimension 2400.

To check the current BIOS version:

  • Press Windows key + R key together for the RUN dialogue box.
  • Type msinfo32.exe and click Ok to view System Information.

If the computer has older version BIOS, you may refer the following link to download the A05 version BIOS: http://dell.to/1ddYhec

Do let me know if you have any further questions.

Hi USSPurdy,

As per the Fixes & Enhancements mentioned in the A05 BIOS download page, the update improves the splash screen logo positioning. System speed may remain unchanged.

No changes are required after updating the BIOS and the memory should be detected without any issue.

Please let me know the results.

There are no Recommended BIOS updates for the 2400, only Optional; therefore I wouldn't attempt the upgrade (?). If you go ahead make sure you use the floppy file method if your floppy drive is working well, UNLESS you have BIOS A03 currently installed. You can always flash later if a BIOS-related inadequacy is taking place. I wouldn't. No upside, only down.

If its not broken bios wise you should not attempt to fix it.  There are no speed enhancements from bios update.
