Shutdown Startup using Me
I have a brand new (took it out of the boxes at 10:30 PM last night) Dimension 8200. I ordered it with Windows Me. It will not perform a Shutdown/Restart. It just sits there (for many many minutes). My only choice was to pull the plug and replug.
I wonder if this is an Me issue?
Anyway, because I am a geek by day, I tried a selective startup and only had windows load what it needed at a minimum (reasoning that the problem may have been some loaded background software). This made no difference.
I was able to do a normal shutdown ONCE. But this was the only one time it worked. Shutdown/Restart hasn't worked even once.
I am willing to try a reload of Me because I have nothing transfered to this machine from my old one yet. I just wondered if someone had a Perl of wisdom for me?
It's brand-spanking new. This shouldn't be happening.

1. Send it back, and tell them you want one that works (you have a limited time frame for this option)
2. Go here: http://www.aumha.org/a/shtdwnmez.htm and hope for the best. For what it's worth, I've been running ME on a 4100 and an I3800 since summer, and have yet to have a shutdown/restart problem on either one. Windows 98SE, on the other hand... :-þ
Good luck.
