Slow DVD burning speed.

Hi there,

I've been experiencing slow dvd burning speed for about a year. I requested help from Microsoft as I used the burning utility provided by Windows Vista. However, after troubleshooting, I was told that it is not the operating system problem. Later on, I contacted Dell for technical support and Dell replaced my optical drive. However, the problem seem not rectified yet. The initial speed was about 1-2 Mb/sec to burn, say 100 pictures into a DVD-R(1-16x), but the speed falls to 90+ kb/sec few minutes later. Currently, my laptop comes with the pre-installed Roxio Easy Creator.

Information on my computer :

Windows Vista Home Premium

Inspiron 1420

Buy good media. The only good media you find in the stores that I would buy is Sony and Verbatim. Everything else is questionable. I myself only buy made-in-Japan discs which are available online stores only.

Media Used was original TDK DVD-R. TDK is considered as high quality media.

Any Taiyo Yuden based media are highly regarded, but my personal preference is also for Verbatim.

But you're right... TDK ain't bad at all.

You've put up with slow burning speeds for a year :emotion-3:

I can only suggest you try using a third-party program, to see if it makes any difference :emotion-55:

There are many FREE burning programs available, including:

CD Burner XP (highly recommended)
ImgBurn (also very good)
Deep Burner
Final Burner FREE
Ultimate CD/DVD Burner
DanDans Free Burner

I have the same issue. I have a newer XPS 8700 and it burns slower than my 7year old PC.  I purchased three different drives.. Formatted and fresh windows ONLY and still burns DVD's 3-4min slower even at a higher speed level.. I purchased several different brands of Media. Something is weird here.  Got the Latest Plextor Drive, then recently the latest ASUS drive and now I am using my OLD DVD burner by Pioneer that kicks ***.  What is the issue with all the new drives now?
