Smartcard reader keyboard not recognized by KVM switch

In August we purchased three Optiplex GX 280s with the smartcard reader keyboards. The smartcard reader works well with our corporate smartcards. We recently purchased three IOgear KVM switches. The KVM switch does not recognize the keyboard at all when plugged in to the console keyboard slot. If I use the USB port on the back of the switch (designed for other USB peripherals such as printers/scanners) it works just fine. However, it will not work with other PCs connected to the KVM switch as it is not in the console's input port. Has anyone run in to this type of problem Any input would be much appreciated.

I have run into this same problem GX 280 machines with smart card keyboard with belkin KVM switches.  When the smart card keyboard is plugged directly into the machine the it works, but when plugged into the KVM nothing works on the keyboard.  Any advice or solutions?   Thank you
