Sound, Video and Game Controller
I am using Dell XPS420 Home Premium and updated the above driver. It installed correctly, h/ever in Device Manager, SIgmaTel High Definition Audio Codec shows a yellow triangle indicating the device cannot start (Code 10).
Can anyone please advise a possible cause and any ideas how to fix this problem is appreciated.
Any further info required will gladly give upon request
Tks

What driver did you update?
And, what problem did you have that you updated whatever it was?
Do you have both a separate sound card and the Integrated Audio? It sounds like the Integrated Audio is disabled in the BIOS (correct if you have a separate SoundBlaster sound card).
More info is needed.

Hi
Your input appreciated.
At this point would like to point out that my knowledge is very limited but in answer to your question the updated driver was - IDT HIGH DEFINITION AUDIO CODEC -
What did transpire was I ran a prog which indicated drivers on my PC requiring update. This was one of them.
I carried out the update process which t/after indicated update successful.
At a later stage discovered in my Device Manager the indication mentioned in my input showing that this driver was not working (CODE 10).
Before receiving your response I carried out the update procedure once more and discovered that the data was in the form of RAR file. Succeeded in completing what was necessary and the driver in my Device Manager now indicates the device as working properly.
To be honest I don't really know what the function of this driver except that it is supposed to be OK.
As far as the response from you is concerned must admit that it is somewhat above my head (technically)
but suffice it to say that the indication is that all is OK.
Your help / advice very much appreciated.

The "IDT" drivers will corrupt a Dell integrated audio system. The best advice I can give you is to use the System Restore function and restore the PC to a date PRIOR to updating/installing the IDT drivers. The IDT corporation bought SigmaTel earlier this year but as Dell uses a custom driver, using anything other than Dell can cause problems.
The System Restore function can be accessed under Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools.

I noticed yesterday that in the taskbar there was an icon for this program. I t/4 unticked it in my msconfig and upon restart it disappeared. As long as this is deactivated, I assume it should not startup at any stage (am I correct?), or is it definitely required that your suggestion be carried out (System Restore).
Replying asap bcs I notice this service will be out of commission for a period of time starting tomorrow
