SoundMax integrated Audio and Internet tlelephony Problems
Hy,
I ve got Desktop Dim 4600 with integrated Sound Max digital Audio.I tried many pc to phone providers, but I experience the same problem-I can hear the opposite side, but they can not hear me or they hear me with very bad quality of the sound/roaring and chopping.I reinstalled the drivers once again, but the problem persists.I ve got the same prob with messangers chat/yahoo and msn.The interesting fact is I succeded with another application-Skype pc-pc calls/now and then.
When I test the hardware, speaking in the mic I hear not so good quality of the audio recorded.
Do I need to upgrade to a better sound card?Is the half-duplex causing the audio failures? What can I do to start using the internet telephony avoiding the 1way audio?
Can you help me please :(!!!!

I am having similar problems. Bought this Dimension 8300 last week. I can hear others in MSN Messenger or NetMeeting but they can't hear me. I've run the wizard in Messenger and everything checks out. I've tested the audio in Control Panel/Sound and Audio Devices on the voice tab. Mic works fine. Called tech support and the 'tech' told me to uncheck the box under microphone in Volume Control. That only mutes the mic through my speakers. The mic works fine. I've also tested the mic using Sound Recorder and made several test .wav files. All tests were successful. I've also tested the mic and webcam through Movie Maker and made several test 'talkies'. Again, all tests were successful.
Dell Support has updated drivers for the AD198x, update R58182 but that had no impact. I thought perhaps it was the Intel 10/100 LOM ethnet card and found updated drivers, the R578277 download. Also no impact.
I'm using MSN Messenger 6.1 (6.1.0211), with Norton Antivirus 2004 and Internet Security Professional 2004. I also have another computer linked through a D-Link DI-604. I've unhooked the mic from the Dell and plugged it into the other computer and two-way conversations work just fine. The other computer is running Norton SystemWorks 2003 and Personal Firewall 2003.
I've uninstalled Norton completely from the Dell system thinking something there was prohibiting 2-way conversation. I can still only hear the other party. They can't hear me. I then bypassed the router and hooked my ethernet card directly to the modem and deleted the D-Link settings. Same results.
I called Dell Support again and was told it was MSN Messenger software which they don't support because it's an outside vendor. Another told me it was hardware and transferred me to a hardware support rep. That rep said it was MSN software and transferred me back to software. After four hours and the 10th, yes 10th support rep, I asked for a return authorization. I was transferred to Customer Service. She convinced me to hold onto this system and she'll send me a new one. Maybe it's a bad board. She said it may take 10-14 days for the new system to be built but I'm the impatient sort.
While I had the Customer Service rep on the phone I installed an old sound card (Gamut 2000) and downloade d XP dirvers with the same results. Still no outgoing internet sound.
I've also tried Messenger 4.7 found in Program Files/Messenger/msmsgs.exe and still only 1-way conversation.
Has anyone else had problems with voice over internet and found an effective solution?
