Speed up Splash Screen
Hello Dellnuts, I am new to the community because I've just obtained a Dell Inspiron 531S. I would really like to Speed up the Boot Process, but unlike the HP's I've had, I don't see this option in the BIOS?
au revoir! and thanks

ahh ok. As far as I know LInux doesn't take advantage of the Fastboot and secure boot stuff. From what little linux stuff i've done, the popular distro's always tend to be somewhat slow on average or older hardware.. not sure why though.

The boot process speed is determined by a few things, one of them being the hardware installed and what OS you have as well. If you have 8.1 or 10 it can take a few restarts after a while to get it to speed up as it 'caches' several processes to load them faster, thus making boot faster. Also if you have one of those OS's you should see if you can turn on secureboot as that makes booting a bit faster as well.

Thanks BeamerMT79, should have mentioned (didn't think it mattered at the time) I installed Linux on this old Vista pc. It was a second hand one and the user account was PassProtected so I ditched it seeing support wouldn't be much longer and the pc is a little weak for newer os's. It runs quite good and Fastboot is Enabled in BIOS, but don't know if that matters with Linux. It's not bad now that I've got it up and running, but still the Splash is a little long. Merci beaucoup monsieur

Thanks Beamer, I think it is working pretty well now. As I said before, now that I have it all working properly it is smooth sailing, and am very happy now. The splash is not all that long and linux runs well, maybe not as well as Vista, as you said, these linux distros don't always work that well on hardware that is designed for windows. Linux, or Nvidia, don't have a good Graphics driver for it but it an't to bad I suppose. Only a little issue when scrolling in Firefox and moving around some other software gui's. Thanks for the reply.
