Startup problems with Dell Precision T3400
Hello,
Yesterday I got a new computer, but it has a few issues. If I turn it on, the diagnostic lights 3 and 4 come on, and from my research I found out that it means that the memory may have failed. When I got the computer it didn't have any RAM, so I took the memory out of my old one, which had a bad motherboard. Did the motherboard failure in the other one affect the memory or something? Or could it mean something else? It doesn't have a hard drive either, so I don't know if it would start up if it did...

Booting a Live Linux DVD does not require a hard drive but it does require ram. Ram is not ram any ole ram. Just because it came from your old computer does not mean that its the proper type and speed for your T3400. You cannot use buffered ram and ECC is not required but it should be PC2 6400 or PC2 8500 DDR2 unbuffered Ram. Low Density INTEL compatible ram is required.
DDR2 PC2-6400 • CL=6 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR2-800 • 1.8V • 256Meg x 64

OK, so now I guess I just need to find memory that's compatible with the T3400. Any suggestions?
Anyway I need to know what it means when the diagnostic lights 1 3 and 4 are all on at the same time...
