Studio XPS 8000 Factory Restore Help
Hello,
I need help to do a factory restore on my PC please...
Since having this PC I have done 3 or 4 reformats by using the discs that came with the computer, but my son has deleted some files from 'windows' and now it plays up freezing and crashing. (I have read all posts about this with other users but nothing helped) I have tried another reformat but same thing keeps happening. And I would really love to get rid of all the old windows files and whatever changes my son did to the computer.
I have tried the Datasafe Local Backup 2.0 but when I get to step 4 there is no option of 'Dell Factory Image Recovery', so now can I do?
My PC Reg Model is D03M Type D03M001
Thanks Kindly for any help - Kaye

If the Dell recovery partition (F8 at power on) is no longer valid, due to some change on the hard drive or if Windows has been installed using discs, the only option to reinstall is to use a Windows disc and do a manual install.
See THIS from Dell on how to manually install.

Hi,
Welcome to Dell community. I would like to inform that since you have already formatted the drive and reinstalled windows on the system you must have lost the factory image on the system. Since the factory installed image is deleted hence we cannot use that option anymore.
The only option left now is to reinstall the operating system using the cd, however as you have stated that you have already tried that option on the system with the same error would request you to reply with the error that you get while installing the OS.
Thanks,

Thankyou, thats what Ive read from other posts, but since I still have a partition called Recovery on my pc I hoped I could still use it?? If not why hasnt it removed itself? And is it safe for me to remove? Id like more space on my harddrive.

If the Recovery partition is available try the link below.
support.dell.com/.../document
Boot from Vista / 7 DVD -> repair you computer -> command prompt
Try those commands -> If you still cant do the restore then the only way to bring back the computer is by wiping all the data off.

Unfortunately that did not work at all... D: 'The System cannot find the specified path' and PCRestore "is not recognised as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file."
I cant understand why I cant access the RECOVERY system... I went to Disk Management and I have 3 partitions there 1. Volume #blank Capacity 63mb status healthy OEM partition
2 Volume (C:) NTFS 921.84 GB Healthy (Boot, Page File, Crash Dump, Primary Partition)
3. Volume RECOVERY NTFS Healthy (System, Active, Primary Partition) 9.61gb
Im using WIN7 system.
Thankyou again for any help or advice - Kaye
