Studio XPS 8100 - DDR3 Memory (Best Buy Version)

Dell specs for the DDR3 memory speed call for 1333, but the one I bought from Best Buy only has the 1066 (PC 8500) type.  Can anyone confirm the type of memory in their XPS 8100 and whether you got it direct from DELL or from Best Buy.

Thanks

AMD chipset ram DOES NOT WORK with INTEL chipset motherboards because HIGH Density Ram does not work.  You cannot mix density and ranks and speed.  INTEL Compatible ram is REQUIRED.

The Studio XPS 8100 can use the following -
DDR3-1333Mhz PC3-10600
DDR3-1066Mhz PC3-8500

If you mix them, the 1333MHz will downclock to 1066Mhz.

Slot 1   Slot 2   Slot 3   Slot 4   Total Memory

2GB     1GB                               3GB

1GB      1GB     1GB     1GB      4GB

2GB       2GB                             4GB

2GB       2GB    1GB     1GB      6GB

4GB       4GB                             8GB

2GB       2GB     2GB     2GB     8GB

4GB       4GB     2GB     2GB     12GB

4GB       4GB     4GB     4GB     16GB

Going a little off topic of the question:

Is this the memory installation for the XPS 8100?

Do you know the maker of the motherboard for the XPS 8100?

I always thought to get Dual Channel performance, like memory sizes were in every other slot:

So for 6GB to run dual channel, 2GB, 1GB, 2GB, 1GB would be how to install.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

Chris,

Thanks for the info, but it doesn't answer my question.  The posted specifications on the DELL website for the Studio XPS 8100 memory is shown here:

http://www.dell.com/us/en/home/desktops/studio-xps-8100/pd.aspx?refid=studio-xps-8100&s=dhs&cs=19&~oid=us~en~29~studio-xps-8100-anav1~~

 Memory
Up to 16GB Dual-Channel 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM 2 - 4 DIMMs 6

My unit came with DDR3-1066Mhz PC3-8500 instead of the specified DDR-1333Mhz PC3-10600.  Why?  Can I get Dell support to send me the PC3-10600 in exchange?

ALSO, why didn't the system just come with TWO 4GB cards instead of FOUR 2GB cards?  Why should I have to throw away good memory if I choose to add more ram later on?

Thanks

Think it's just a Dell branded mobo.  However, you may be thinking about TRIPLE channel memory requirements?

Could XPS 8100 go up to 24 GB with 4 of 6GB 1600hz?

Hi Chris, does it matter for the chipset type? I have a chance to buy ram but it says it's for an AMD chipset..

This is what is in my computer now for ram..got it from a program called CPU-Z.
