Possibly an ailing power supply, but I'd try replacing the motherboard battery first, if nothing else than to rule it out, especially if it's more than 2-3 years old.

Should be CR2032 3-volt lithium ion battery, ~$2 at discount stores.

Before removing old battery, reboot and press F2 to open BIOS setup. Copy (or photograph) all current BIOS settings because everything will revert to defaults when you remove the battery.

Then power off, unplug, and press/hold power button for ~15 sec. Open case and replace battery. Close case and reboot. Go back into BIOS setup and make sure all settings match what you copied, or change to match. Save any changes before exiting setup. (You'll have to set date/time too.)

If battery doesn't help, consider the PSU...

Unfortunately I live in a rural area and our local general store doesn't have the battery, have to wait till I go to bigger town later in month.  Meantime my work around is to use the sleep mode for now.  Will eventually post results of battery replacement.

Thanks again!

Many Pharmacy's carry this battery because its used in blood sugar machines.

You can also order a DL2032 from amazon.

You could try unplugging the power cord and holding in the power button as in the previous recommendation, but without replacing the battery. This had worked for me in a similar situation.

Replacing the battery didn't work.  Replacing the power supply is the next project.  Thanks for all of the help.
