Sub Woofer not working
I just bought this new computer, and can't get the sub woofer to work.
I tried updating drivers, changing sound settings in control panel to Surround sound (but when testing sub woofer no sound ever comes out, even with the sound turned up high)
The normal speakers work fine. They are connected to the computer through the sub woofer.
The computer claims the sound system is working perfectly, but it's lying to me.
:(
Relevant specs:
-Vista home premium
-Sound Blaster X-Fi Extreme
-Zylux Dell A525 Speakers+Subwoofer
thanks a mil for your help

The A525 speaker system is a standard "2.1" analog powered speaker system. You only need to connect the green connector from the speaker system (attached to the sub woofer) to the Green Speaker jack on the PC. There are NO drivers for analog speaker systems.
If the bass speaker is not working, doublecheck all the wiring in the speaker system to make sure it's all connected correctly and that you have the AC power supply connected.
You can verify that the PC's sound is working correctly by connecting headphones to the Green speaker jack.

Thanks for the info about analog etc..
I should have posted here before wasting my time!
:smileyindifferent:
I'm sure it's powered up correctly because the regular speakers attached to the sub woofer
wouldn't work if it wasn't plugged in. I'm also sure the speakers are wired correctly,
since there is no other choice but to plug them into the one jack on the back of the sub woofer.
I also am sure I plugged it into the correct jack on the computer.
Even so, I tried every possible orafice on the computer just to be sure.
If I plugged the speakers into say, an ipod, shouldn't the sub woofer work?
I tried it and I still get no life or bass, Barry White would be turning in his grave.
Maybe the problem is beyond my control and actually the sub woofer itself?
Thanks again for your help,
Rob

Rob,
It does sound like the speaker system is bad. You are correct, if you plug the speaker system into an iPod or something similar it should all work.
Start looking for a new speaker system, unfortunately speaker systems are like most computer components - if they fail you get a new one and throw the old one away. You don't need Dell brand - go to Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Circuit City, etc.
