Subwoofer not working
I have a Dell Dimensions 4600 that came with the Soundmax Digitial Integrated Audio running on XP. I recently had work done to my computer. I have sound but my subwoofer is not working. Anyone have any idea as why it's not working? Someone please help as this tinnie sound is driving me crazy!

What speaker system do you have? A 2.1?, a 5.1? it makes a difference. However, in a 2.1 speaker system (2 small speakers and a bass speaker) the speaker system itself controls the bass speaker's output. You only have a stereo output to the speaker system and the speaker system has the amplifier and distributes the sound (and frequencey response). Thus, if the output from the computer is OK (you can check that by plugging a headset into the GREEN speaker jack on the rear) then the problem is in the speaker system.
More info is needed to try and diagnose the problem, however if it's in the speaker system there isn't much you can do except go buy a new speaker system - they are not repairable (or if they could be repaired the repairs would be more than the cost of a new system).

Fireberd,
Thanks for your reply. I have the 2.1 system (2 small speakers and a sub-woofer) by Dell (the Altec Lansing). I'll do what you suggest and let yuou know if that worked.
Thanks again,
