I was at that website, but CTRL+ALT+DEL has been issued and I have only four running programs.
Explorer
SysMonitor
DellTalk -Dont'know
Yet CPU USAGE is over 75 % consistently.
LOCKED MEMORY is 59.4 MEgs used. What is it?
DISCHE CACHE ?Size is 39.2 Megs. I think it may be reserved for cache that gives less moemory for other applications. How to reduce it with commands?
But 75% is too high with nothing of MY applications running at 128 MEGS.
Thank you for the leads, but still not helpful yet!
Just a couple of things. First, sysmon is probably not the best measure of what's going on, mainly because it uses a lot of CPU cycles itself. You can get a better idea if you download and install a program called TaskInfo2000. You can get it
HERE.
Second, doing a Cntrl-Alt-Del does not get rid of all running processes. Many of them run from startup and you have to eliminate them before they start. Goonboy has recommend a site where you can see how to eliminate these unnecessary programs from startup using msconfig.
Third, (I guess there is more than a couple of things), the amount of memory you have and free system resources are not related. For more information on this go to
http://www.aumha.org/a/resource.htm.
Hope this helps get to the source of your complaint/problem.
I just downloaded TaskInfo2000 and unzipped it.
It gives much more reliable information. I am executing SYSMON at the same time with TASKINFO. I am not able to explain how SysMON's CPU is at nearly 50 percent usage while TASKINFO says 98.8 % of the CPU's KERNEL PROCESS is IDLE!!!.
I just downloaded TASKINFO on your suggestion, and the data is much more reliable than the SYSMON.
Right now, I am running both TASKINFO and SYSMON. While TASKINFO says 98% of CPU KERNEL is IDLE while SYSMON's CPU says over 40 percent is IDLE. I am trying to connect them together. So mfar it does not make sense.
Many thanks for referring me to the website.
I think it is a plain DOS program because I had to use PKUNZIP to unzip it. PKUNZIP are for DOS programs, I think.
Anyway, I like TASKINFO.
Alan-
There is something called an idle loop that is low priority and sysmon counts it as busy. The details are too wordy so I hope that this relieves your confusion.
Sure it does reduce confusion, although not detailed but in simple English.
But I think I can rely on TASKINF2000 from now on. It seems to provide down to earth information as opposed to SYSMON.
Yet, there are many new terms to learn about the memory management with TASKINF.

My Dell has 128 MEGS RAM. about 85 MEGS are being gobbled up.
75% of 128 MEGS said it!
No personal applications running..

If it's any consolation, using System Monitor, I show usage at 100% pretty much all the time, and everything works fine on this.
