System Clock keeps running to fast

Hi, I have been having a problem with my system clock running to fast for quite awhile. It's constantly running fast. I correct it & a 1/2 hour later, it's fast again. Can anybody please tell me how to fix it, it's very depressing when you think it's later than it is. lol Running Windows XP, on a Dimension 4600. Some other computers in the office are having the same problem. We all have different software. Thanks

How much time is your clock gaining? Here's one thing you can do to find the root cause. Set your clock to a known good source (like nist.gov), then run your computer until it is obviously fast. Then shut down your computer and restart. Does the time fix itself? If so, the problem isn't your CMOS clock, it's your timer interrupt.

Not that knowing the cause will help fix the problem. On XP, you can fix it by using NET TIME in a scheduled task, or use w32tm (as long as you have network connection to a good time source). If you are really curious, w32tm can also tell you how far each computer is drifting.

Replace the battery on the motherboard. They can run fast when the battery is low. The batteries tend to last ~2-3 yrs.

The battery wouldn't explain a fast clock while the system is on, only if it gains or loses time when the system is off.

The clock runs anywhere between 5 - 10 minutes fast before I see it & then change it. Thanks for the info. We will see what works.
