System Management BIOS
McAfee's clinic indicated that my system management BIOS is reporting a problem with 4 onboard devices: 3 sound and 1 video adapters and that they are currently disabled. I have no idea what this means or what i should do about it.

Hi Josieposie,
I would go to My Computer | Control Panel | System | Device Manager and take a look at what Windows says about these devices. Click the "+" to the left of Dispay Adapter and highlight the specific hardware device. Choose Properties. Does this window that comes up indicate there is a problem with your video adapter, or does it say it is working properly? Do the same thing for Sound, video, and game controllers.
If you are really ambitious, then restart your system, and as soon as you see the big Dell globe, press the Esc key. Now, watch the screen. Part way through this POST that you are seeing the written results of, at the bottom left of the screen, it will tell you to press a certain key to enter Setup--on recent Dell systems, this is usually the Del key. You may want to go throught the hardware configuration tabs completely to see if disabled devices are mentioned anywhere. Change nothing at this time. You may be asked if you want to save changes when you exit--choose to exit without saving changes if this comes up.
The bottom line is that if your system is working properly--you have video and you have audio, you are in excellent shape. The possiblility does exist that some systems do have devices disabled for good reason--devices mounted to the motherboard that have been replaced by PCI devices will have the motherboard devices disabled. You have to do that because the hardmounted devices can't be removed, yet can't be allowed to interfere with the new devices, either. Is this your case?
Good luck,
Kay
