System Restore Update

I recently noticed that windows Me automatically downloaded and install microsofts new update for system restore. Now when I try to use system restore, all it displays in the calender is the date of december 30, 1899 making it the only available date for a restore. I also tried making a restore point, and after doing it I check the restore points and it's not there. Can anyone help me out?
