T3500 AMBER Light remains solid while all other components seems to be running

Good Day All,

I'm at a lost.  I recently purchased 6 core Xeon X5670 Processor to upgrade from the W3520 that came with my T3500.  Prior to swapping the hardware I followed a Youtube recommendation and pressed the power button repeatedly /rapidly for about ten clicks in an effort to drain the tower of any residual juice (power).  After transferring out the old processor and in with the new, I reconnected cables and pressed the power button.

Well Fans came on, DVD/CD drives came on, Graphic Card Fan turned on and started to rev up at aggressive RPMs (speeds).  Amber light is on at the MB towards the rear of the case, Lan line is blinking as per normal,  green light is on the MB near the main power connector.

On the front of the Tower lights 2, 3, and 4 blink green and the Power button stays Solid Amber

Pleeaaaassee Help / advise

Thank you

From manual:

Solid Amber Power Button - System fault, but Power Supply is good - normal operating state (S0 ).

2-3-4:  Possible USB failure (though it doesn't mention "blinking")

Do you know new CPU is compatible with this system? The manual only lists Xenon 3500 and Xeon 5500 series processors.

If you're sure it's compatible, is it seated correctly in the socket? Did you possibly get a bum processor?

Are all the various cables attached correctly, eg, connector and/or USB cable from the front panel to motherboard, etc..?

Thanks Rohe, but I checked and the DELL XPDFK Precision Workstation T3500 Motherboard; Supported Processors: Intel Xeon 6-Core (X5670, X5650), Intel Xeon Quad Core (W3550, W3565, W3530, E5640, E5630, E5507), Intel Xeon Dual Core (W3505, W3503), Intel Xeon (W3680)

based on this I should have a problem.

Don't know if the Processor is a bum one.  But I removed and put the original back in and the same/identical problem exist.

All the cables are in the proper places.

Try clearing BIOS:

  1. Power off, unplug
  2. Press/hold power button for ~15 sec
  3. Open case and remove motherboard battery
  4. Press/hold power button for ~30 sec
  5. Reinstall battery (right-side-up!)
  6. See if it boots with only mouse, monitor and keyboard attached

If that works with old processor, you can try swapping in the new one and clearing BIOS after it's installed.
