That darned processor holder thingy...

I haven't been able to put my mind to rest after the question first came to mind... nor have I been able to find an answer to my query within the forums... but... I'm not certain what the Dimension 8300 has for a CPU socket on the motherboard, beyond the fact that it is a 478 pin. Is it LGA775 as well? If it isn't LGA775... will LGA775 478-pin CPU's work in it?

Much thanks.

LGA 775 and socket 478 are two different, and mutually incompatible processor formats.

The 8300 uses Socket 478.
