USB Over Current Error.
Hi. I've had my XPS desktop for a few months now. the other day I want to plug in a device to the front USB port and as I did it my computer immediately shut down. I restarted and tried it again and it shut down again. Now when I go to turn my computer on I get an error on boot, USB over current error, press F1 to enter bios, press F2 to load defaults and continue. I press f2 and the computer boots and works normally, but................ any idea why this is happening?
So far I've not had a very good experience with Dell...........

The Nessie Lamp needs 500ma of power. Many Front ports are only 100ma max per port.

Nope, it was just a simple jump drive, and also a USB hardware lock dongle thing. Upon further investigation I loked closely at the USB ports and it looked like somehow the metal inside had gotten raised up and when I put the USB drive in it pushed the metal up so that it was contacting the other metal part. I turned off the computer, unplugged it and straigtened out the metal peice so that it wasn't touching. This seems to have solved the problem, it looks like it was shorting out or something. I haven't had time to test it a lot but I started up three times without any issues so.... hopefully the problem is solved.

glad you found the source of the problem. indeed, if usb port pins are bent and make contact where they ought not a pc may not power on at all.
