USB does not detect HP PSC 1510- USB Chipset problem? or HP full of it?
I have a new PSC 1510 that I cannot get a 4700 Windows XP SP2 computer to detect. I've already upgraded the BIOS to A09 and proved the USB cable was fine by swapping it with that of an external hard drive that worked with either cable. I called HP and they're telling me that the problem is that USB root hubs are listed as 82801FB/FBM. The tech told me a firmware upgrade needs to change it to be 82801AB or AD or ED to get this to work. Is this possible to do? I've been trying to find a firmware upgrade on Dell's site but can't find anything. Any help would be appreciated?
Thanks.

The latest chipset for the 4700 is here, and you could try installing it if it's more recent than the one already installed:
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&releaseid=R79695&SystemID=DIM_P4_4700&os=WW1&osl=en&deviceid=3268&devlib=0&typecnt=1&vercnt=1&formatcnt=1&fileid=104426
There's also an update to Dell Desktop Systme Software for the 4700 that fixes some USB issues here:

The correct way to install a USB printer is to run the HP software first and only connect the printer when the software prompts for it. If you connected the printer first, chances are high that XP installed the wrong drivers and it's not going to work. In that case, disconnect the printer and do System Retore to a date just before you first tried to install the printer. Then run the HP software and connect the printer only when it tells you to do it.
