USB ports

Can someone please tell me how many USB ports are on an Inspiron 660 and where they are located. I just ordered one, do not have it yet. The guy on chat line said to call tech support.  Yeah, right. I just want to know if there are 2 ports on the front and at least 4 ports on the back. There was a video for the Inspiron 660s and it showed opening up a panel on the front. The 660 is different and I'd like to know it a panel opens on the front for the USB ports?  I need to cancel my order if it doesn't have at least 6 ports and 2 of them MUST be on the front.

Hi Delphinaduck,

You may refer to the following details. However, the specification may vary based on the order details.

Front IO Panel

Front IO Panel
1 USB 2.0 Ports - Connect to USB devices, such as a mouse, keyboard, printer, external drive, or MP3 player.
2 Microphone or line-in connector - Connects to a microphone or inputs signal for use with audio programs.
3 Headphone connector - Connects to a pair of headphones.
4 8 in 1 Media Card Reader - Provides a fast and convenient way to view and share digital photos, music, and videos stored on a media card.

Rear IO Panel

Rear IO Panel
1 Network connector and light - Connects your computer to a network or a broadband device if you are using a wired network. The two lights next to the connector indicate the status and activity for a wired network connection.
2 USB 2.0 Ports -- Connect to USB devices, such as a mouse, keyboard, printer, external drive, or MP3 player.
3 USB 3.0 Ports -- Connect to USB devices, such as a mouse, keyboard, printer, external drive, or MP3 player.
4 HDMI connector - Connects to the HDMI connector on your display or TV.
5 VGA connector - Connects to a monitor or projector.
6 Audio Connectors - Microphone (Pink), Line Out (Green) and Line In (Blue)

Hope this information helps.

The Inspiron 660 Mini Tower has 2 x USB 2.0 ports on the front panel, plus 4 x USB 3.0 ports and 2 x USB 2.0 ports on the back panel.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!  I was so proud of myself for sitting down and ordering the CPU today and then it hit me that I changed at the last minute and ordered the 660 instead of the 660s that I had been looking at yesterday. Man, I broke out in a cold sweat because I have to have those ports in the front and accessible. Maybe all computers have them and this was a dumb question, but everyone answered it for me and I'm excited now for delivery of my new CPU!  I've had Windows XP for a hundred years and am switching to Windows 7. Have no clue if I can set it up for myself or not.  Anyone have any experience with Virtual XP?

I'm curious why you say the 660 Mini Tower is better than the 660s Slimline? I hope I'll enjoy it. The problem will be trying to load all my programs going from XP to Windows 7.  You don't happen to have any experience with the virtual XP on Windows 7, do you?   By the way, love the photo of the cat!

The Mini Tower version has a larger chassis and better/easier to upgrade, than the compact Slimline model.

Also, has 300w PSU, instead of the 660s 250w unit.

You can transfer all your files and folders, from the old XP system to a Win 7 computer without any issues, best to use a USB thumb drive, or a USB external hard drive for this.

Regards to all the applications and programs, these cannot be transfered, but must be installed from their media [DVD/CDs], or downloaded from the publisher's websites.

You are welcome and I'm happy to have helped.

You were smart to order the Inspiron 660 Mini Tower and not the compact 660s Slimline version.

Enjoy your new computer. :emotion-2:

There are two USB-2 ports on the front. On the back, you have 2 USB-2 and 4 USB-3 ports.
