does the driver you are trying to install.. fail to install? i mean, i installed my drivers in any old order with video 1st and it worked out A okay for me...
You have been misinformed. The chipset drivers should always be installed first, before any other drivers.
If you post the model of your computer someone should be able to provide you with assistance with your audio.
I note that you have a Dimension 8250. The audio driver for your system (and instructions for installing it) are
here.

i reinstalled windows some time ago, i performed a formatt of drive and upgraded to xp pro sp2.
i then proceeded to install the drivers from dell resource CD (in no particular order).
when i went to install the audio drivers, i got this 'severe' error popping up : Driver not found! Reboot your system, and run this setup again" and install ceases. i reboot, and then try again and same thing happens.
i need to install these drivers because when i listen to music like mp3s, the sound skips/jumps.
and Denny Denham , i already downloaded those drivers, and i get the exact same error popping up.
so i was told to make sure the chipset was installed first - since i cannot be sure which i installed first, i was going to uninstall all system drivers from the resource CD and reinstall making sure chipset installed first.
