Upgrade Graphics card will not install

Hi

I Have an Dell desktop XPS 8300 with on board Graphics card.

I'm trying to upgrade the graphics by installing a ''ASUS GT640 2GB DD3 VGA'' card

The cards fan will spin but I get no output from the card , the on board graphics takes over each time.

I have checked the power supply on the 8300 should be able to handle it.

I have installed the card in another PC and it works fine.

Any ideas ?

robmck61,

Did you enter the Bios on bootup and open each section looking for the option to set the Primary Display to Discrete?

The option isn't there.

Found these threads seems to be a common problem.

Have you updated the BIOS to the latest version? If so, the card may simply be incompatible with the 8300, and I'd suggest trying another card, like a Sapphire 6450 (on sale for $40 before $10 mail-in rebate).
