Upgrade Mcafee virus scan?

I went to pams post about pretty park virus and downloaded the latest upgrade of mcafee scan. I tried to also to sownload the specific .dat file for the virus, but it said I had already installed it. probably came with the upgrade right.? Do I need to unzip the file like the directions indicate or does it automatically work with the upgrade? the version of mcafee I have is 4.0.2 and that didn't change with the upgrade but the scan engine changed to 4.0.50, does it sound like I did it right? how can I see if it is properly working? Please forgive all the questions, this is the first time I have upgraded anything. Thank you for any help you can give!!

Shannon, You are looking pretty good with what you say! You don't need to upgrade the Scan Engine itself (that is the 4.0.2 that you reference) The DAT's are what you need to keep updated! (that is the 4.0.50 that you reference!)

If they detect the file already on your system, then you shouldn't have to worry! As well, if the file was included with the update and they detected it, you shouldn't have to download or unzip another file.

You do want to make sure that you check for updates frequently! New viruses are detected and DAT's created to detect them often!
