Upgrading BIOS
Hi despite my dell support request in my home country to date I have had no response. I want to upgrade my BIOS on my GX270 Optiplex. When I run the upgrade software it asks me for a password, Where do I find this password ? I have looked through all the instruction manuls and other documentation, but with no luck...please can someone point me in the right direction
Many Thanks

Hi holistic, BIOS upgrades can go well, then there are some that can go wrong. My advice to you is, If your system is running ok, dont bother with the BIOS upgrade. Im not running the latest BIOS with my system, because there is no need for it.

I am upgrading my BIOS, because my USB connected devices are playing up. The BIOS upgrade claims to improve USB connectivity. Surely someone has upgraded their BIOS, where do we find the password ? OK my computer might be the latest model and my service warranty may have expired, but I paid a lot of money for this computer back then , DELL support for such a simple query is very poor (at least from in my local country - Greece) .
Thanks

It sounds like you purchased the system directly from Dell, no? Optiplex systems are classified as 'business machines', which is why I ask. Many times businesses will sell old Optiplex systems and forget about the admin password in the BIOS, so I'm just wondering if that may be what's going on here. Otherwise, if you purchased it brand-new from Dell, do you remember ever having set the BIOS password on it? That's the only password I can imagine it would be asking for. You might try flashing your CMOS (either removing the CMOS button-battery or moving the PWD jumper on the mobo) and that should get rid of the password.

Exactly when does this message appear? If it appears while in windows, then this is not a Bios password issue but a windows issue.
* Redownload the file from here and save it to your windows desktop
* Double click the Icon on your desktop labeled GX270A07.EXE. The Dell BIOS Flash window appears
* Click the Continue button. The message Pressing OK will close all applications, shut down Windows, Flash the BIOS, then reboot. appears
* Click the OK button. The system will restart and the BIOS Flash will be completed

I did buy it directly from Dell Greece. I do not remember setting a BIOS password. I would rather avoid messing with the inside..anyone from DELL ?It is a simple question which is not specifically answered in the FAQs....
