I would like to replace my GeForce with an ATI Radeon AIW 9600XT. I purchased a new PS from PC Power & Cooling. They recommended a 275 Dell Silencer. It is in shipment. I am having second thoughts about returning it for a 360 Dell Silencer.

I have never added any additional cooling to my box. The GeForce 256 ran hot, for it's day. The ATI card has an onboard cooling fan. I plan to move the ethernet card from the PCI slot adjacent to the AGP slot (Dell setup) to my last remaining open slot to give some air space to the ATI card. Do I need to add any additional fans? If so, direct the airflow down or back or both?

Also, what is the best way to cleanly remove nVidia Detonator drivers? Does anyone have the ATI Catalyst 4.3 drivers. Do they seem stable?

Thanks for any help.

Video FAQ at the top of the list has procedures for Driver cleaner and ATI. If you exchange the power supply, you would get more wattage for drives, but I think the 275 would be enough. (I was happy to hear they raised the wattage, for when I need one.) If your Geforce 256 is still alive, your new Radeon won't get hotter than that 256. Cooling OK, moving the PCI card will help. I had a 256 before, and the cooling fan started to moan and the PC locked up, I oiled it, worked until I got a Geforce2, which now corrupts video, oddly, less often now that I use the computer a lot more.
