Hi whitpet, Well your VGA is Analog and your DVI is Digital. I have mine setup for digital, connect your DVI cable into your graphics card and the other into your monitor. Some systems you will get an 'Y' connector for your VGA and you DVI, allowing you to run two monitors off you graphics card.
I have the same monitor on my Dimension E520. I was using the blue VGA cable. I was getting gray bars going across the screen and finally got tired of it and called support. He had me reinstall the driver. At the same time I switched to the white DVI cable connection which I had been meaning to do. My gray bars are gone! But I don't know what fixed it, the driver reinstall or switching to DVI.
So I would say to use the DVI cable! I noticed the screen is a little sharper now.

Hands down DVI. Much better resoultion and picture quality. Why make the monitor have to convert the analog signal back to digital
