Voice sounds robotic when using VOIP SoftPhone
I have an XPS 410 with Vista Home Premium, my company uses a ShoreTel VOIP system. I have the ShoreTel client installed on my computer, I can connect to the server, open my SoftPhone connection, and call out. But the caller says I sound like a robot.
I have tried multiple USB microphones with no dice. I have reinstalled my audio drivers, and configured my setting to everything possible. About the only thing I haven't tried is upgrading my sound card. Soft Phone worked one day with no problems... then I didn't use it for about a month and now I'm a robot.
Any ideas?

Try recording with the Windows sound recorder (it will only record from a mic and limited to 60 seconds) and see what your voice sounds like. If it's OK then it's not the mic or your sound card and in that case I would be checking the Shore Tel program (and maybe reinstalling it). The Sound Recorder is found under Start/Programs/Accessories.
If it's bad locally with the test, check Control Panel/Sounds and check any Sound Enhancemsnts and disable all sound enhancements, restart the PC and then try it again. If you can find another mic, try that just in case the one you have is flakey (intermittent).
