Vostro 230 Memory RAM upgrade - 4GB max? FALSE! Here's Why!

This is a follow-up to the following thread, which lacked complete information.

The Vostro 230 supports 8GB max, using 2x4GB LOW DENSITY memory.

The LOW DENSITY part is critical, and explains why some people have success and others didn't.

Density is usually not mentioned in the product description, and all G-Skill parts are now HIGH density (and hence will not work), but you can distinguish Crucial parts based on a product code prefix. Crucial customer service will tell you the proper low density part code if you ask.

I've got several Vostro 230 systems running with 8GB. The lower density 2GB parts got doubled up into Vostro 430 units to give them 8GB as well. Everyone goes away happy. ;)
