What happens if/when RAID becomes degraded/inconsistent/fails?

Hi there,

I recently got one of my clients to order an OptiPlex workstation with a RAID 1 configuration. I realized that I didn't know what happens if/when one of the disks becomes degraded. Does an alarm go off? Does the BIOS show it when the system is booted?

I have experience with the T and R servers running the PERC x/i controllers but I don't know about these on-board controllers for the workstations.

There doesn't appear to be any Dell OpenManage software installed so I honestly don't know how the user is to be warned about a detected degraded volume.
