What is FlexDock?

Apparently my Studio Tower has a FlexDock.

That's good news I guess, cept I don't know what that is.

Can someone shed light on this?  What peripherals can be installed in a FlexDock?

Is it not mentioned in the owners manual?  You can view it on/download it from the Dell website, if you don't have the paper manual.

Alternatively, contact tech support.  They should be able to advise you what it's used for - or can be used for :emotion-5:

Here is what the owner's manuals says.  The Service Manual wasn't much help either.

FlexBay drive —

Can contain an optional FlexBay.

A Google search on the term FlexDock will 'splain it - but it sounds Greek to me.

I know this post is ancient but since no one answered the question, I will.  FlexDock is a means to hot-plug a USB external hard drive into your computer without opening up the machine.  You can share the hard drive among any machine that has a FlexDrive bay.

Can use a standard 3.5" drive to do this?  I don't see the required hardware/

This shows how the FlexDock fits into the chassis:

Unfortunately it still doesn't show the specifics of the ports/connectors inside the FlexDock/Flexbay

google doesn't seem to help much.

here is a debate about putting a hard drive into a flexbay/dock/whatever (warning - some potentially offensive language)

In any case (no pun intended), it does not look like the "native" FlexDock/Bay/Drive USB connector would be something that would be used to connect a hard drive.

(sorry, I am not familiar with Studio models)

ok, for at least these models, there are specific instructions for using flexbay for a hard drive:

see "Installing a Hard Drive in the FlexBay"
