FDC usually refers to the "Floppy Drive Controller", check your diskette drive for functionality. If it does not work and you're in confident mood, take off the lid of the PC and check the grey data cable running from the Floppy drive to the motherboard is firmly seated at both ends. If it is seated OK and the drive still does not function call tech support.

Means your floppy disk controller has failed for one reason or another. Could be something as simple as a loose ribbon cable...that would be nice. If you're comfortable inside that rascal, that would be one thing to check. Dell Tech Support folks have tests they can run you through to narrow it down...I think I'd give them a call and let them do that. If you have Norton System Works installed, there's a hardware check feature in that that might give you some more info, but absent that, you may wanting to be getting on the phone with Tech Support.

Good luck!
