Why are Autoexec.bat and Config.sys empty?

I have a Dimension XPS T700 that I just reformatted.

After installing Windows 98 SE, I checked the Performance Tab under System in the control panel and next to File System it says "Some drives using MS-DOS compatability". Next to Virtual Memory it says "MS DOS compatible mode".

Under those two it says:
Compatibility-mode paging reduces overall system performance.
Drive C is using MS-DOS compatibility mode file system.

In addition, in msconfig, my config.sys and autoexec.bat are both blank.

I know I did the reformatting correctly because I did it 3 times and the last time was walked through by a Dell tech.

What is wrong with my computer and what can I do to fix it?

Please help!!!!!

I know for a fact that virii tend to do that, but since you just formatted, that's a very unlikely cause. Look under Device Manager and make sure that all your drivers are installed properly. Check to see if there are any exclamation marks or something next to any devices. If drivers, especially for you hard drive, are not installed properly, you will get the message "some drives using MS-DOS compatability" under the Performance tab. Regarding the autoexec.bat and config.sys files, it's fine that they are empty. Usually CD-ROM drives put entries in them in order to function correctly, but as long as your computer boots properly, there is no need to worry about those empty files.
