Why does IPX wokr and TC/IP not?
i have two gateways hooked up and they worked fine networked together. when i tried to add my dell running xp, the otehrs were running 98, it would not work. it did work using IPX, but it doesn't work with TC/IP. I do not even show up on my own network. what can i do?

Your best bet would be to ask this in tne networking conference. There are some very savy folks over there if you don't get an answer here.

Did you enable NETBIOS over TCP/IP on all of the computers? If this is not done, it is a common reason why TCP/IP file and printer sharing doesn't work in Windows XP. Other than that, it seems that when one cannot get TCP/IP file and printer sharing to work for some reason probably only known to Bill Gates, that installing IPX/SPX makes it work. In monitoring the Microsoft Windows XP Networking Newsgroup, I have found that once people get it to work, they usually stop at that point and don't try to figure out why TCP/IP would not work.
