Window Freezes when asked to Print Document

HELP....After entering a document and asking it to print my screen freezes and I cannot print or even get out of the program. I have to reset the entire system with the RESET button and then I get a message stating that can RETRY the printing by pressing YES. When I do this nothing happens. My document is saved. My printer is working for all other documents so it is not my printer. I've sent an on-line message to DELL but was told I may need to wait 3-5 days for a response. Can anyone out there lead me in the right way to eliminate this problem.

Bob,

It may not help, but what program are you trying to print from? You say the printer works for all other documents, so is this problem only with one particular document in a program that works with all others? I'm a bit confused.

HP DeskJet 720C Series Printers - Printer Driver Patch for Windows 98
Introduction
When printing to an HP DeskJet 720C series printer with the 10.0 or 10.1 version of the printer driver, the systems hangs when accessing the Windows Printer's Properties page from certain applications in Windows 98.

Information
There are three workarounds, choose the one that best fits your needs.

Workaround 1
Download and install version 10.3 or higher of the HP DeskJet 720 series printer driver for Windows 98. Go here to go to the printer driver downloads page http://www.hp.com/cposupport/swindexes/dj720c_swen.html.

Workaround 2
Order a patch file from HP Distribution. HP has provided an update to the HP DeskJet 720C series Windows Driver so that you can print successfully with Windows 98. This patch will work with all languages. When you double-click the file, installation will automatically begin and will ask whether you want to install the patch. The patch will determine what language your version of Windows 98 is running and will install the matching language.

To order the patch in the United States contact HP Distribution directly.

NOTE: Three sources of information are readily available to help you find an HP Support Services phone number:

1. The Web: Go here to go to HP Customer Care online Support Guide http://www.hp.com/cposupport/mail_support.html.

2. The User's Guide that came with your HP product.

3. An authorized HP Dealer or Retailer: Go here to go to HP's online Service and Support Locator http://www.hp.com/service_locator/.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The patch is available on a 3.5 inch- floppy disk, ask for part number DJ116.

You can install this patch on your Windows 95 system. If you intend to upgrade your system to Windows 98, you can either install the patch on your Windows 95 system and then upgrade to Windows 98, or upgrade your system to Windows 98 and then install the patch.

Workaround 3:
Start an application such as Microsoft (R) Word or WordPad and print from it immediately after booting the computer, without opening the Print Properties dialog box. The application can then be closed. The printer will now print properly from Word 97 and Internet Explorer 4.x.
